De Popol Vuh<\/strong> is een belangrijke tekst die de geschiedenis van het Maya-volk bevat. Er wordt gezegd dat het een mythologische versie is waarin alles wordt uitgelegd wat te maken heeft met het ontstaan van de wereld en de rol die de mens daarin speelde.<\/p>\n

Popol Vuh: raadsboek of gemeenschapsboek<\/h2>\n

De Popol Vuh<\/strong> wordt ook wel het gemeenschapsboek of het raadsboek genoemd. Volgens de etymologie; Popol betekent vergadering, gemeenschap of raad, terwijl het woord Vuh verwijst naar een boek of papier.<\/p>\n

De Popol Vuh<\/strong> wordt ook wel het heilige boek of de Quich\u00e9bijbel genoemd; het is echter een beetje vals omdat het geen spiritueel boek of goddelijke openbaringen is, het relateert eenvoudigweg aspecten die verband houden met de oorsprong van de wereld, de schepping van de mens en de beschaving, evenals de verschillende verschijnselen die in de natuur voorkomen.<\/p>\n

Oorsprong van de Popol Vuh<\/h2>\n

De naam Popol Vuh<\/strong> werd in 1861 gegeven door de Franse priester Charles \u00c9tienne Brasseur de Bourbourg, toen hij een exacte transcriptie maakte van de woorden uit de tekst van Francisco Xim\u00e9nez, die degene was die het document keer voor het eerst vertaalde. <\/p>\n

Volgens studies wordt aangenomen dat de eerste versie van deze tekst rond het jaar 1550 in de Quiche-taal is geschreven door een inboorling die, nadat hij had leren schrijven, de mondelinge verhalen van een oude man opnam. Als dit het geval was en als het genoemde document bestond, zou het verborgen zijn geweest tot de jaren 1701-1703, toen de priester Fray Francisco Xim\u00e9nez, pastoor van Santo Tomas de Chichicastenango, het vond en in het Spaans vertaalde.<\/p>\n

Deze documenten werden tot 1830 gearchiveerd in het klooster van Santo Domingo, waarna ze werden overgebracht naar de Universiteit van San Carlos de Guatemala. Rond het jaar 1857 haalde de geestelijke Charles \u00c9tienne Brasseur de Bourbourg het originele exemplaar uit de Universiteit van San Carlos, dat hij meenam naar Europa en daar publiceerde hij het onder de naam \u2018 Popol Vuh<\/strong> \u2019.<\/p>\n

Fragmenten van de Popol Vuh<\/h2>\n

In de originele tekst van de Popol Vuh<\/strong> zijn er geen verdeeldheid in het verhaal; De meest voorkomende versies bestaan echter uit fragmenten of zijn voor het gemak in delen verdeeld.<\/p>\n

Dit document behandelt een verscheidenheid aan onderwerpen, in de eerste plaats een beschrijving van de oorsprong van de wereld, dieren en hoe het proces van het cre\u00ebren van mensen werd gepresenteerd. Ten tweede worden de avonturen van de goden uit de Maya-mythologie<\/a> , Hunahp\u00fa<\/a> en Ixbalanqu\u00e9,<\/a> verteld.
