Foto door Openverse<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p> <strong>Chilam Balam<\/strong> staat in <a href=\"https:\/\/ancientmythology.org\/nl\/maya\/\">de Maya-mythologie<\/a> bekend als de naam die wordt gegeven aan verschillende boeken die het verhaal vertellen van de Maya-beschaving, die werden geschreven na de Spaanse verovering.<\/p>\n<p> Elk van deze boeken is vernoemd naar de stad waar ze zijn geschreven, daarom is er op verschillende plaatsen een <strong>Chilam Balam<\/strong> . Tot de belangrijkste behoren: Man\u00ed, Tizim\u00edn, Chumayel, Kaua, Ixil, Tusik, Tekax, Nah, Yaxkukul.<\/p>\n<p> Deze teksten hebben een aanzienlijke mythische en profetische inhoud die enigszins ingewikkeld is, aangezien de Maya&#8217;s toekomstige voorspellingen vertelden in verwarrende metaforische taal, waardoor ze moeilijk te begrijpen waren.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Etymologie van Chilam Balam<\/h3>\n<p> Omdat er in de Mayataal veel woorden zijn die op dezelfde manier worden geschreven maar niet dezelfde betekenis hebben, bestaat er geen exacte zekerheid over wat <strong>Chilam Balam<\/strong> betekent; ze hechten echter nog steeds belang aan deze titel voor de boeken.<\/p>\n<p> Chilam betekent mond of iemand die een mond is, dat wil zeggen iemand die profeteert. Deze titel werd gegeven aan Maya-priesters die oude boeken interpreteerden om profetie\u00ebn eruit te halen en toekomstige gebeurtenissen te voorspellen. Om deze reden werden ze vereerd als waarzeggers of profeten.<\/p>\n<p> Terwijl Balam tovenaar, tovenaar of jaguar betekent. Daarom kan de <strong>Chilam Balam<\/strong> vertaald worden als: mond van de heks, mond van de jaguar, mond van de jaguargod, heksenpriester, jaguarpriester of priester van de jaguargod.<\/p>\n<p> Er is echter een andere versie waarin staat dat deze boeken zijn vernoemd naar een priester uit de stad Man\u00ed, genaamd Balam, die een grote reputatie had als profeet, omdat hij veel gebeurtenissen voorspelde.
